A Week of Blessings

I did not realize that I had not done my mammogram since 2013. I have no problem with all my other annual checkups. I have no issue with being poked, prodded and jabbed. The mammogram though is where I just find it’s antiquated. Why does my breast have to be thrust on a cold slab and squished? How do women without my ample breasts do a mammogram? I’m curious. How do ‘A and B’ cups do them? Don’t wait for 12 years though. And I had changed my name back to my maiden name so they thought I was lying about having a previous mammogram. Everyone please do your annual checks religiously. Early detection saves lives. If cancer is caught early it’s curable. I listened to an oncologist on Aproko doctor and it’s not about sugar. One of the urban myths is that sugar feeds cancer - no it’s not. And stop smoking. Every doctor I speak to says smoking is the biggest threat to health. So I did a Computerized Bone Mineralometry (MOC), a non-invasive diagnostic examination to assess the state of bone health according to Google. This investigation, which measures the amount and mass of minerals present in bones, is useful to diagnose osteoporosis, prevent fractures, and monitor the stages of the treatment adopted. I’m still in normal ranges. I did the bloods and of course there is some insulin resistance so we’re working on weight loss and overall I’m in good nick. I’m now left with my dental health which I dread. I had a racist dentist when I was young who believed (like the new minister of health in a country that shall remain unnamed), that Africans have a greater aptitude for pain and thus did not use any numbing gel for fillings. That drill still invokes horrors and childhood terrors.

All to say:

I feel so grateful to live in a country where I can do preventive health checks.

I feel so grateful to have medical aid.

I feel so grateful to be as healthy as I am despite my chronic illness.

I feel so grateful to be walking again - a year ago I was on crutches.

I feel so grateful to still be employed as this is not guaranteed.

I feel so grateful to be starting my journey to become a financial therapist. Yes I’m back at school and reskilling because a lot of people struggle with finances and it has something to do with how they feel about money.

I feel so grateful for becoming a bestselling author on Amazon in 4 countries and across several categories. I could not have done it without the support of every single one of you who bought my ebook. I could not have done it without a good publisher She Rises Studios. Thank you.

I feel so grateful to be a leader with a voice at this historic time in the geopolitical landscape. This is a time when history will judge leaders by their actions. I will strive to be in the minority of leaders who kept their integrity and did the right thing especially when speaking up and doing right seems like the wrong thing. I will stand on the values espoused in the Universal Declaration of human rights and not waiver and I remind us of the 2nd paragraph of the preamble ‘Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people…’

I feel so grateful to live in interesting times.

I feel so grateful for my life, the blessings I receive daily, the outpouring of joy to celebrate with and for me about my achievements and stand with and for me when I struggle. I am so grateful for everyone on this platform and everywhere who prays for my wellbeing and sends me blessings.

Thank you! Ngiyabonga! Ndinotenda! Grazie! Danke!

Get your health check. Tell your parents and everyone you love that you love them.
